If you have a child with a milk allergy, you can understand how serious it is. My son is in preschool and I have alerted them about his milk allergy. But one day a substitute teacher was at the school and she gave him milk along with all of the other kids. He started throwing up and wheezing. The school called an ambulance because they were scared.
My son ended up being OK. But milk allergies are real. It used to be peanuts that most people were concerned about but I’ve read that milk allergies are more common now. Some kids can’t tolerate milk. Supposedly most kids grow out of it. I would just warn all parents to be extra careful when dealing with schools. Tell them over and over even if you feel like a pest.
Milk allergy can cause anaphylaxis, a life-threatening reaction that narrows the airways and can block breathing. Milk is the third most common food — after peanuts and tree nuts — to cause anaphylaxis.
