In my experience with lip injections, I really feel that a lot of the discomfort has to do with the person who performs the procedure. Hyaluronic acid fillers come with a numbing medication but often it’s not enough. Some practitioners use a topical numbing cream. Sometimes ice is used before injections. I have a low tolerance for pain so even with pain control, I still feel that it hurts. But some people are fine and say that it just feels like a pinch.
I usually work with a nurse practitioner. It depends on the person because the person doing the injection can be gentle and try to calm you down or be in a hurry and do the injections fast without paying attention. I’ve had both types. One who helped to make me feel relaxed and one who was clearly in a hurry. The latter didn’t work out well.
In terms of how they look, I like lip injections a lot but the key is to not overdo it. A little at a time. Tell the practitioner or doctor what you are looking for. Take pictures with you so you can relay what kind of a look you want. It is an art. Ask about side effects and risks. Try not to think about an injection in the lip because the thought of it will make you feel pain. Take Tylenol ahead of time and try to relax. I think it’s worth it.
