I temporarily do not have health insurance yet my asthma is terrible. So I searched for information and I found some information on AAFA.org (Asthma and Allergy Association of America). What I like about it is that it is a community forum with questions and answers to a lot of topics about asthma and allergies. Here are the resources I found:
1) Telehealth (phone or virtual) visit. Some companies provide telehealth visits for a flat rate, others require memberships. KHealth, for example, sets up a text chat with a doctor who can discuss problems and refill medicines. KHealth has mixed reviews but for a start, it might be worth it.
2) Free clinics or federally qualified health centers (FQHC). They often have a built-in pharmacy (340B pharmacy). An FQHC clinic with a 340B pharmacy will likely have sliding scale exam fees and special prices on medicine. This is a good option for general care. You can find a free clinic in your area (National Association of Free and Charitable clinics)
3)AAFA’s virtual insurance assistant on AAFA’s Facebook page (Asthma and Allergy Association of America).
There are a lot of things I learned at AAFA.org like which kind of vacuum cleaner is best, which sheets to buy, and also information about household cleaners.
Thanks for sharing. I know plenty of people with asthma and they have all told me it can be a mess with insurance and overall costs. Inhalers run out fairly quickly and require lots of refills. It’s good to see people are helping each other out with information. I think that’s the future of healthcare.
