Wegmans Food Markets Screens Supplements

If you live near a Wegmans Food Market, you’ll be happy to know that Wegmans is providing a new program for shoppers called “Verified with Confidence.”  It’s a program that is designed to help customers identify products that adhere to high standards in the supplement market.  That includes all dietary supplements, probiotics, herbals, and CBD-containing products.

Why is this important?  Many people believe that the supplement market is not regulated enough so consumers don’t know exactly what they’re getting.  Wegmans is taking a proactive step to give customers confidence in what they’re buying.  Karen Shadders is Vice President of Health and Well-Being at Wegmans.  She says that Wegmans has been concerned with inconsistent testing standards in the supplement market.  Wegmans wants to ensure the products sold contain the ingredients stated on the bottle.

Wegmans is not managing the program alone. They are working in collaboration with NSF (NSF.org).  NSF is providing auditing services, product testing, label review accuracy, and claims substantiation. NSF will be administering the overall program. 

Consumer confidence is important and Wegmans’ step up to provide quality assurance and product safety is big news for customers.  Wegmans has stores in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland, Massachusetts, and North Carolina.
