Have you heard of urgent care for orthopedics? In St. George Utah a new Ortho Urgent Care has been opened at Intermountain Healthcare. It’s called Southwest Ortho Urgent Care. Utah is not the only state with Ortho Urgent Care so check to see if your area has an Urgent Care for Orthopedics nearby.
It’s a great idea and many areas are implementing it so they can reduce unnecessary doctor visits and help patients receive specialized care for orthopedic issues faster and more affordable. This is Intermountain’s first orthopedic urgent care center, which will improve access for patients to affordable orthopedic care and specialists. This can reduce visits to the emergency room where you would usually be referred to an orthopedist.
Because it is an urgent care facility, the cost of care can be far more affordable than care in the emergency room. At Ortho Urgent Care, physicians and orthopedic specialists can treat torn ligaments, sprains, broken bones, and other common orthopedic injuries not severe enough to require a hospital visit. At Southwest Ortho, the center also offers onsite x-ray, musculoskeletal ultrasound, and the ability to splint, cast, repair simple lacerations, broken bones, and dislocations.
Intermountain plans to open other ortho urgent care clinics in other parts of Utah in the future. I like the idea of urgent care orthopedics. I ski in Utah and I want urgent care that specializes in ski injuries. Going to a hospital is too expensive (unless it’s a catastrophic injury) and the wait time is unreasonable so it really is a great idea.
