Patrick Hollon got a real surprise when he was ill and needed to go to the hospital.  While working at his job in a plastics plant, he felt dizzy and ill enough that his co-workers called an ambulance thinking that it was a heat stroke.  It was 94 degrees in Frankfort, Kentucky and there was a heat wave in June 2022.

When Patrick arrived at the hospital, he was given Narcan because the hospital thought it was a drug overdose.  He was treated also for dehydration but not heat stroke.  Patrick still felt ill and he was unresponsive and unable to speak coherently.

So, what did the hospital do?  The staff at the hospital called the police because Patrick was too ill to leave.  The hospital interpreted his behavior as a refusal to leave the hospital and assumed he was a drug addict.  The hospital discharged him even though he was clearly unwell and unable to leave.

When the police arrived they charged Patrick Hollon with trespassing due to his refusal to leave the hospital.  The hospital approved of the police taking Patrick to jail even though he was clearly in need of medical attention.  He had to stay in jail for 12 hours and he was booked for third-degree criminal trespassing.

Ironically, Mr. Hollon is a Marine veteran and he says he has never taken illegal drugs. Once Patrick was released from jail his father took him to a different hospital.  There he was diagnosed and treated for heat stroke.  A lawsuit is pending.

That is really embarrassing for the hospital. What were they thinking? Totally judgemental. I hope the trespassing charge is dropped. He could have died. Who knew you could be rushed to a hospital and end up in jail?
