The talented Johnny Marr, best known for the band, The Smiths, is super-fit in his 50’s.  He’s on a good health kick and it shows. Actually, you wouldn’t have known if he were unhealthy in his 20’s because he looked super fit then too.  Only he was drinking, smoking, and pulling all-nighters. It was all about the music. With a big mop of black hair and a super-thin build, you wouldn’t know he was pulling all-nighters to write songs and tour with his band.  And didn’t a lot of us look great in our 20’s?  Back then you could abuse your body and still look great.  Or pull an all-nighter and still manage to put yourself together for an event the next day.

For those of us who are getting older, well, we kind of have to watch it now.  Johnny Marr runs like a competitive athlete now, miles and miles.  He is a long-distance runner and he runs many times right before shows.  He runs even when he is traveling in a foreign country. He quit drinking and cigarettes and he is the picture of health. You also won’t find Johnny Marr in a steakhouse.  He’s a vegetarian. 

Now a solo artist, Johnny Marr has plenty of stamina on stage.  And thank goodness because his fans want him to perform as long as he can. He’s back on tour in the UK after the coronavirus.  Often thought of as one of the best guitar players in the world, Johnny can hold his own singing with his band as well.  His passion motivates him to stay healthy.

It’s amazing how a lot of us get into shape when we’re older even if we have severely abused our bodies or “enjoyed ourselves to the fullest.”  And it makes sense.  Your lungs can recuperate after smoking and it’s never too late to stop.  You can lose weight, exercise, stop or reduce drinking and you can bring yourself to a great place of health and well-being.  It’s never too late to practice good health.

It’s good to know that you can get your health back even if you smoke at an early age or drink or never sleep like I used to do in my 20’s

Such an amazing story! I have no idea how he has the time to do everything and stay healthy.
