Dynamic Digital Radiography (DDR) is an X-ray imaging technology that is popular because of its low-dose X-ray imaging technique and because it is a fast procedure. That’s because it can acquire up to 15 sequential radiographs per second. It is called the “X-ray that moves”. It was developed by Konica Minolta Healthcare and it can be administered standing, seated or on a table. It is FDA approved and a physician does not need to be present. It can be performed by the radiology staff.
In regard to chest radiography, PFT (pulmonary function test) is usually used in the evaluation of pulmonary disorders. There is great benefit to adding DDR to the chest radiograph because it provides additional functional data beyond a PFT. It is also less difficult for those with breathing issues.
Researchers at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai used DDR data to create their AI-powered technique that analyzes lung function. They found that their AI-based software provides additional quantitative data that may be useful in distinguishing pulmonary disorder and possibly treatment escalation.
