My good friend’s husband just passed away unexpectedly. He worked all the time and said he would make room for a doctor’s appointment but he never did. He had a hard time breathing on many days and felt dizzy and nauseous. He said he hated to go to the doctor because it was uncomfortable. He also said he didn’t have time. He died of a heart attack.
So many men refuse to go to the doctor including my husband. For so long I asked him to get an annual check-up. He said he didn’t have time. I know he is unhealthy. So finally I found two different doctors for myself that I knew he’d feel comfortable with. One is a doctor who specializes in sleep apnea and the other is a general practitioner. I made the appointments for him and one of the offices was on the way to work.
Surprisingly, he liked both doctors. And although the check-up was uncomfortable, he came back in a good mood and said that he and the doctor talked about a lot of different things and he really liked him. The doctor gave him a lecture on his weight (I get that lecture too) but overall I think I found a solution. I think it’s that overall anxiety about going to a doctor you either don’t like or who makes you wait a long time in the waiting room.
The importance of seeing a doctor, especially with symptoms is immeasurable. I really feel that my friend’s husband could have been saved.

It is so hard to go to the doctor, I wish I had someone to push me into it.
