Taylor Lorenz was a vivacious, young 26 year old who had a zest for life and a close, loving family. I watched his story on youtube so many times mostly because I saw how his death affected his family and how sad they were that he had passed away at such a young age.

Taylor had Type 1 Diabetes and although he had to be careful throughout his life, no one expected he would die suddenly. His father asked him about his blood sugar as he was leaving for work.  He couldn’t get a blood sugar reading so his father called an ambulance. It was not an emergency, just a precaution. The ambulance drove away without sirens but as the ambulance got a little further, Taylor’s father heard the siren come on. Taylor went into cardiac arrest. Doctors tried hard to save his life, but Taylor Lorenz died. His family remembers him each day. He died in January 2020.

Type 1 Diabetes is a chronic condition in which the pancreas produces little or no insulin. It typically appears in adolescence. Symptoms include increased thirst, frequent urination, hunger, fatigue, and blurred vision. Treatment aims at maintaining normal blood sugar levels through regular monitoring, insulin therapy, diet, and exercise. If you have diabetes, your chances of having a stroke are 1.5 times higher than in people who don’t have diabetes.

My deepest sympathy for your family. I thank you for honoring Taylor’s wishes and donating to save others. I am here today because 14yrs ago another family made that same life-changing gift of a new heart. I applaud your hero son /brother and share his story because it touched me so very deeply. I promise you He will forever be so many peoples hero and will never be forgotten. I wish #thekansascitychiefs would recognize his heroism and honor him the way he deserves. God bless you and your family ❤️

I’ve watched other honor walks and that was one of the hardest to watch. I cried along with the family.

I watched the video too and he had such a loving family. They were from St. Joseph, MO and the whole family loved the Kansas City Chiefs.
