Many of us have scarring after surgery that is inevitable after a doctor cuts into our skin to perform surgery. I myself have scars from C-sections, hip replacement surgery, surgery after a car accident and scars from skin cancer removal. The scars I have are part of my life and although I don’t like them I have learned to live with them. Our society’s quest for perfection in ads and pictures in magazines make many people feel insecure. But as one ages, you realize that it is part of your journey through life. Those who accept you just the way you are turn out to be the people you really want to hang out with. I have a network of people who care about me and the scars do not intrude on those relationships. There are also many ways to reduce scarring if you wish: creams, plastic surgery, silicone strips, etc. And they do fade over time. For me, there will probably be more in my lifetime but I don’t worry. Those of us who have been through battles of health are often happy to be alive.

It’s a good attitude to have. I wish people weren’t so critical. I would feel less self-conscious.
