Famous Physical Therapists Bob Schrupp and Brad Heneick have some great suggestions for healing after knee replacement surgery. I followed their suggestions after my surgery and I am grateful. Here are their tips:
Don’t compare yourself to other people while you are healing. If someone else is doing better than you, don’t let it discourage you. You will heal at your own rate and do just fine.
Keep your pain under control. Use your pain medication as directed. If you are in pain, you can’t do the rehabilitation work. Use ice pads if you need them.
Progressing to a cane too quickly. They recommend using a cane only when you are ready. Use the walker first until you are ready to use the cane.
Try to get the knee as straight as possible and the knee as bent as possible. This is more important than walking right away.
Don’t stop physical therapy too soon. Also don’t skip physical therapy altogether.
