I tried for so long to deny that I was getting older. I received numerous offers from AARP (an interest group for those over age 50) and I refused to join. When Trader Joe’s allowed the 60+ crowd to shop early at their stores during the coronavirus, I refused. I thought I might see someone I know and they would see that I’m older than I pretend to be.
Each year I celebrated a new birthday until it became impossible to pretend that I’m not in the senior crowd because I am. So finally I decided to embrace my age and take advantage of some of the benefits. First of all, I often dine early so I can take advantage of a discount menu. I remember when I was in my 20’s, a date took me to dinner at 5:15 p.m. I thought it was weird until he finally told me that he had no money and we had to eat early because it was less expensive (4-6 p.m. at some restaurants).
The best senior deals I have found are the following:
Hertz: 20% off for the 50+ program
Rite-Aid Wellness program for 65+
Walgreens 20% discount on select days
IHG Hotel Group – senior discount rate for 62+
Marriott – senior discount rate at participating hotels for 62+
Denny’s 55+ menu
Optum Perks cards (pharmacy discount cards)
McDonald’s: Discounted coffee at participating locations
Discounts vary all the time at great places to shop, eat, travel, etc. Some deals change monthly and are at participating locations. It never hurts to ask or search the internet. But there’s nothing wrong with taking advantage of some of the perks when you get older!

I totally agree about denying one’s age. My mom does it all the time.
