When I had breast cancer, a funny thing happened. My best friend and beloved dog, Sam started whimpering and crying at my breasts frequently. I didn’t know what he was trying to tell me. So I decided to go to the doctor at the risk of sounding crazy. Fortunately my doctor was non-judgemental and gave me a series of tests. Guess what? I had breast cancer and my dog caught it in the early stages.
I’ve since read that there are certain types of cancer that a dog can detect. They are colorectal, lung, melanoma, ovarian, prostate and breast cancer. The way dogs detect cancer is by smelling the odor of different types of cancer. This is according to Medical News Today.
While there is more research that needs to be evaluated, it is exciting news and all I can do is thank my beloved pup.
