If you watched “Leave it to Beaver” on T.V. in the late ’50s and ’60s, you’ll remember its star, Beaver (played by Jerry Mathers). And even if you weren’t around then you may have seen lots of re-runs. In later life, the star of the show, Jerry Mathers ran a successful catering company for the movie industry. It was a great business financially but not so great for his health.

Jerry said he was around food all the time and he loved to cook. He said that not only was he overweight but everyone around him was as well because of the good food they were cooking. Jerry was eating 5-6 full meals a day. The weight got out of hand and his doctor told him he had only 3-5 years to live if he didn’t manage his Type 2 diabetes.

In addition to being diabetic, Mathers was diagnosed with high blood pressure and bad cholesterol. He began working out and lost 55 lbs. after selling his catering company. Now he controls his weight with small portions and exercise. He walks every day.

It’s easy to gain weight if you’re around food all the time and around people who love to eat a lot. But if your health is in danger, you’ll most likely be motivated to take the weight off.

I can definitely relate to that. If you are around food all the time or people who love to eat, it’s so easy to gain weight.
