You’ve probably seen lots of people with veneers, especially on television. Veneers are very thin custom-made shells for your teeth. They are as thin as contact lenses. For people who have unsightly teeth, veneers can make teeth look beautiful. But there are issues with veneers. Sometimes they look unnatural or too uniformly white.

Dr. Michael Meier of Switzerland says that Switzerland is known throughout the world for veneers. Dr. Meier says “Usually, we can place veneers on teeth without drilling or shortening them. It’s a rare skill, and we are very thankful that our technicians have this know-how.”

Dr. Meier believes that veneers are good when color correction is necessary, but it’s important not to go too far: otherwise, you will have that unnatural porcelain smile, with a blue hue. Also, veneers can correct tooth angulation, adapt tooth length, and brighten one’s smile.

Dr. Meier says that if he doesn’t have to drill the teeth, veneers last 15–20 years. With veneers, all the flaws can be corrected: shape, angle, length – not only the color, and also create a wider smile. The patient chooses how the veneers should look. Every set is made according to the patient’s wishes and manufactured individually. Reflections in the right spots are also important for a natural and youthful look.

Ceramic vs. Porcelain: Dentists have different opinions about ceramic and porcelain veneers. Some dentists feel that porcelain resembles teeth really well as opposed to composite resin and ceramic veneers that require dental labs to shape and color them into prosthetic teeth shells.  Other dentists prefer ceramic. Ceramic veneers make use of teeth-colored ceramic materials such as zirconia.  They’re less likely to accumulate plaque and bacteria and they resist irritating your gums or neighboring natural teeth.  It is important to work with your dentist to determine what works best for you.

Well, I am sure Switzerland is known for veneers. But there are so many doctors here in the U.S. so it seems like a long way to go just for veneers.
