I am a heavy drinker, and I have been trying to reduce my drinking for a long time but have been unable to do so. I am increasingly worried about my liver and the damage I have caused to it, but as I said, I simply have been unable to stop drinking no matter how hard I try. Is the damage to my liver permanent, or is there a way to reverse the damage? Is the only way to recover simply to stop drinking, or are there medications for this?

I’m not a doctor, but I’ll link to another site’s article that I think summarizes this well.

Basically, there are different types of liver damage, some more permanent than others. I am a former alcoholic, and what I can tell you is that ultimately, if you want to stop the liver damage, the only true solution is to stop drinking. I know you can do it. I’ve been there before and it’s difficult but possible. But without stoppping, no medicine can magically repair your kidneys to perfection.
