One of the things I enjoy the most is drinking iced tea throughout the day. The only drawback I could think of is that I like the kind with caffeine and it tends to keep me up at night if I drink it in the late afternoon or evening. But other than that it’s one of my favorite beverages.
Or so I thought…I recently read an article indicating that although tea has many benefits, it is possible that drinking too much iced tea can cause kidney failure. An article popped up about a man in Arkansas who went to the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System with symptoms of fatigue, weakness and body aches. The doctors found out that his kidneys were failing so they put him on dialysis. But this case is much different than mine. He admitted that he was drinking 16 full size glasses of iced tea per day. The acid in the tea (oxalic acid) deposits in your kidneys and causes trouble. Black tea especially can lead to kidney stones.
Well I know I don’t drink that much tea but it’s good to know the dangers. That goes for anything in excess. Meanwhile tea does have good benefits such as possibly lowering blood pressure, and lowering the risk of cancer. Some doctors say it can promote weight loss. I think I’ll stick with the tea in a medium amount.
