Sometimes you feel you can’t go on anymore thinking about how your parents neglected you or how you could have accomplished so much more with the right upbringing. That has haunted me throughout my life but I’ve realized that there is nothing I can do about it at this point. I have seen so many successful people who have had a childhood upbringing much worse than mine.

A lack of support during childhood affects people in many ways. For example, a feeling of insecurity instead of confidence and poor relationships resulting from the inability to relate to others in a normal way. However, with the proper therapy and practice in the real world people can and do change.

Sometimes you find that you have skills that others don’t have. For example, if your parents were never home and left you alone, you become resourceful and learn how to take care of yourself. You often become very responsible and learn how to “sink or swim” so that you can stay afloat. You might be good at sales if you have learned to talk to different people for help and be resourceful.

Another way you might be successful is if you are a manager in case you had to manage siblings. You might also be more empathetic and understanding with other people. You might come across as kind or humble if you didn’t have parents that were present to take care of you.
But you have to do the hard work in therapy or in some other way. Then you can rise above your experience and start doing good things in the world.
