I’m going to have coronary artery bypass surgery (CABG) done on me soon, and I am increasingly nervous about the procedure. I’m not worried about the recovery after the surgery, but about the procedure itself. I have had major surgeries performed on me in the past, and all of them have been fine with the exception of aching after the fact. However, the thought of CABG really scares me and I need some reassurance.

The surgery is not bad. You are put to sleep and the main thing to remember is that it will save your life. Also, ask your doctor how you can relax the week before surgery e.g. meditation, therapy, and sometimes the doctor will give you something to relax.
But without the surgery, you can die.
