Connor Joe is a professional baseball player whose career was temporarily put on hold in 2020 when he learned about his diagnosis of testicular cancer.  Connor was at first surprised since he’s only in his 20’s. But testicular cancer is one of the most common cancers in men age 20 to 40. Connor found out about his cancer while he was at Spring Training with the Los Angeles Dodgers.  Prior to his diagnosis, he had no symptoms.

Connor Joe got treatment at UCLA Health and he was treated by Dr. Mark Litwin, chair of urology at UCLA Geffen School of Medicine and director of the Testicular Cancer Program at the UCLA Institute of Urologic Oncology.  Dr. Litwin says that generally testicular cancer is very treatable, and in almost all cases, curable.

Connor had a lot of determination when he went through the treatment plan.  That included surgery to remove the tumor followed up by a body scan to see if the cancer had spread to other parts of the body. The cancer had spread to his left lung so Connor needed chemotherapy.

Chemotherapy wasn’t easy but Connor endured it and liked the staff at UCLA. Now cancer-free, Connor’s fans can look forward to seeing him on the baseball field with the Colorado Rockies.  He has a great attitude about life and feels better than ever.  Connor went public about his cancer so that he can help others.

Connor Joe grew up in San Diego and he was recruited by the University of San Diego where he was a top baseball player.  He turned professional and he plays for the Colorado Rockies.

It is really cool of him to go public with this. For a lot of guys, it’s something they wouldn’t want to discuss. I didn’t know it happened to young people.
