Chynna Phillips Baldwin, actress and singer from the trio, Wilson Phillips has a new YouTube channel called California Preachin’ She talks about her life, and often her husband, William Baldwin makes an appearance on her channel. Recently she talked about her disturbing experience with breast implants when she was just 18 years old.
Like many women, she felt that she was flat-chested so she decided to get breast implants. In fact, her mother (Michelle Phillips from the Mamas and the Papas band) went with her for a 2 for 1 special promotion.
When Chynna woke up from the surgery, she didn’t feel right. She had requested a size B and got a size C. Soon, she lost weight, became lethargic, and her hair started falling out. She decided to have her implants removed. It turned out she had a rupture in one of her breasts. Still, she did not get better. Her bones ached and she continued to lose weight. She wonders if the toxins in her body caused her to have a miscarriage. She had polyurethane in her lymph nodes. Eventually, with additional medical intervention, she got better. Today when Chynna looks back at her life, she regrets that she didn’t love her body just the way it is.
While many women are content with their breast implants, the FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) provides valuable resources to help women make informed decisions. Certain types of breast implants have been removed from the marketplace by the FDA as more information becomes available in regard to safety.
For example, on July 24, 2019, the FDA reversed its recent position by calling for the removal of certain breast implants linked to cancer. The FDA called for this removal after new information showed that the Biocell breast implants with a textured surface manufactured by Allergan accounted for a disproportionate number of rare lymphoma cancer cases.
The cancer is a rare form of non-Hodgkins lymphoma, known as breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL). Until recently, many doctors had never heard of the disease. The disease is not breast cancer but lymphoma that grows in the scar tissue surrounding the breasts. It grows slowly and can usually be successfully treated by surgically removing the implants.
