Facial implants are a big decision but for some people it can make a real difference.  If you feel that your chin is not prominent enough or that your cheekbones could use a boost, it’s a good option.  While fillers can also enhance one’s appearance, facial implants are more pronounced.

It’s important to work with a surgeon with whom you feel comfortable.  For cheek implants you want to make sure the implants are proportional in relation to your facial features.  It’s helpful when you can get a 3-D rendering of how it might look.  Then you can decide on exact placement.

Some people seek a chin implant if they feel that their chin is not proportional to their face.  If you look at your profile in the mirror and don’t like your chin, you can set up a consultation with a plastic surgeon to discuss options. You can look at chin implants too before you decide.  There are different sizes and you’ll be able to determine which one looks the best.

Chin implant surgery can be performed as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with IV sedation. For a cheek implant procedure, it usually takes about 45 minutes under local anesthesia.  Complications can include infection, nerve injury, and movement of the implant.

You’ll want to take some time off to heal.  Usually people take a week off with minimal discomfort.  Swelling can last for a week.  Talk to your doctor about the healing process and be sure that you want to move forward before the surgery since implants are permanent as opposed to fillers.
