Zachary Didier was a seventeen-year-old boy from Rocklin, CA who lost his life after buying pills that he did not know were laced with fentanyl. The seller of the pills, Virgil Xavier Bordner presumably did, however, know that the pills were deadly and laced with fentanyl. He is now facing charges regarding Zachary’s death. Recently he pleaded no contest to three charges including involuntary manslaughter and two counts of selling a controlled substance to a minor and admitted the special allegation of inflicting great bodily injury, according to Placer County, CA officials.
Zachary Didier had his whole life ahead of him. He enjoyed sports, was an excellent student, and had a love for music. Zachary’s father found him at home and tried to perform CPR but he couldn’t bring him back. Emergency personnel were unsuccessful as well.
Zachary’s parents, Chris and Laura, want to educate the public about the dangers of fentanyl. Zachary bought pills online through Snapchat. Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is similar to morphine but about 100 times more potent, according to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. However, most times illicit fentanyl is also mixed with other illicit drugs like heroin, methamphetamine and cocaine to increase its potency. Fentanyl is now the No. 1 killer of adults aged 18 to 45 since 2020, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Laura Didier, Zach’s mother says that the family decided to make a mission to warn other families so they don’t have to suffer the way they have. The Didier family has been vocal about the dangers of fentanyl and the ways in which kids can get it. Laura and Chris Didier do presentations at schools and talk to kids and parents.
